Nurses provide direct patient care and assist the doctors with different procedures. Nurses are a direct line of communication for the patients and doctors. They act as a check and balance system for the doctors questioning every order given by the physician in order to provide patients with a higher quality of care. Nurses often triage patients determining which patients require medical assistance and treatments first based on the priority level of the patient's illness or injury.
Nurses working in an room must be capable of handling a fast paced and stressful environment. The emergency room of a hospital can be the scene of various types of medical emergencies. Victims of trauma and illness alike find their way into the emergency room. Every patient is different and nurses in the emergency room have the ability to treat many types of patients suffering from a multitude of problems. Nurses working in an emergency room are unique from nurses in other environments.
Emergency room nurses find themselves with the skills and abilities to assist patients, doctors, and other department staffers. They provide priceless care to those who are sick or hurt and offer a caring and friendly face to all of those who enter the room.
